How to Use the Barbell Plate Calculator

Our free barbell plate calculator instantly shows you which plates to load on each side of your barbell for any target weight. Whether you're using Olympic plates (45 lb) or standard plates, our calculator handles the math so you can focus on lifting.

The Plate Loading Formula

Plates per side = (Target Weight − Bar Weight) ÷ 2

This formula calculates the total weight needed on each side of the barbell. The calculator then determines the optimal combination of plates to reach that weight.
